THREE ENERGY PRICE INCREASES IN SIX MONTHS?

Sometimes you need to see the figures laid out in front of you to realise just how quickly things are changing.

On 30 June 2026, the typical annualised domestic energy cost was £1,477.

Then:

📈 1 July 2026: +12.6%
📈 1 October 2026: +3.6%
📈 1 January 2027: +13% forecast

Martin Lewis states, “The Cap is currently predicted to rise again in January. It’s a bit of crystal ball gazing, but analysts say up 13%”

If that January forecast proves correct, the typical annualised figure will have risen from:

£1,477 ➡️ £1,948

That’s an increase of almost 32% in just six months, or £471 in money terms.

And remember — January isn’t the end of it. The energy price cap is reviewed again for 1 April 2027.

⚠️ The January figure is currently a forecast and could change.

With energy prices moving this quickly, it makes sense to check whether you’re paying more than you need to.

Ofgem said the price cap will increase by another 4% on 1st October 2026.

This means that a household using a typical amount of gas and electricity will pay another £60 more a year on top of July’s 13% increase.

The January forecast is a further increase of 13% – that’s a further increase of £225.

From 30/6/26 to 1/1/27 the average increase would be £471 – that’s scary! if the January forecast is correct.
